On November 20, 2024, the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine - Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna met with representatives of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties discussed several important issues related to freedom of religion and church-state relations in Ukraine in the context of European integration. In particular, they discussed the humanitarian activities of churches and religious organizations during the war, the status of clergy, alternative service in the context of mobilization, and the provision of spiritual and psychological support to the population. The parties also highlighted the importance of further developing church-state relations on the basis of partnership, etc.
Within the context of the UCCRO's activities as a civil society institution, representatives of the denominations emphasized the need to continue transforming Ukraine into a state governed by the rule of law. They highlighted the importance of completing judicial reform and ensuring the protection and strict observance of Ukraine's Basic Law.
Religious leaders presented information to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine about the Council of Churches and the UCCRO's efforts to support European integration processes. They also emphasized the significance of fostering dialogue and the development of relations between Ukrainian denominations and churches in Europe and America.
