On April 11, 2025, a joint meeting of representatives from Christian non-governmental organizations of Ukraine and the Council of Christian Churches of Ukraine took place at the Patriarchal Center of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in Kyiv. The event brought together representatives of more than 20 civic organizations guided by Christian values. The main focus of the meeting was the launch of the Ukrainian Christian Movement — a new social initiative aimed at fostering the spiritual, moral, and social renewal of Ukraine.
This joint gathering marked a significant milestone as it established a permanent platform for coordinating the actions of Christian civic organizations committed to applying Christian principles in public, social, and national life. At the heart of the meeting was the discussion of the Manifesto of the Ukrainian Christian Movement, which outlines a vision for Ukraine’s future through the lens of faith, justice, and solidarity.
His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Head and Father of the UGCC, emphasized:"As actors within civil society, we are launching this movement as a civic initiative. We have no intention of politicizing it. Our goal is to serve the Ukrainian people more actively and effectively through the coordination of our efforts."
The Manifesto defines four foundational areas of activity:
1. Education based on Christian values
2. Support for the family as the cornerstone of society
3. Fostering a culture of well-being, diligence, and economic self-sufficiency
4. Promoting the rule of law and legal culture grounded in Christian morality
The call issued during the meeting was addressed to all people of goodwill — regardless of their religious, national, or political affiliation — to unite their efforts for the common good. Participants of the Ukrainian Christian Movement encourage active civic engagement, responsible leadership, a pro-family culture, and moral renewal of society.
The Ukrainian Christian Movement aspires to become a new institution of civil society that will help realize the spiritual potential of the Ukrainian people through cooperation, dialogue, and practical initiatives at all levels of public life.
The joint meeting with Christian non-governmental organizations was attended by: His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Major Archbishop of the UGCC; Bishop Vitalii Kryvytskyi, Ordinary of the Kyiv-Zhytomyr Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine; Senior Bishop Anatoliy Kozachok of the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church; as well as authorized representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Evangelical Church, the Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church, the Brotherhood of Independent Churches and Missions of Evangelical Christian Baptists of Ukraine, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ukraine, and the Institute for Religious Freedom.
