On April 11, 2025, a meeting of the Council of Christian Churches of Ukraine was held at the Patriarchal Center of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in Kyiv, chaired by His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Major Archbishop of the UGCC. The participants discussed a range of pressing issues concerning socio-religious relations in Ukraine and planned initiatives aimed at supporting the institution of the family in the context of the country’s demographic crisis and Russia’s ongoing military aggression.
During the meeting, representatives of Ukrainian churches discussed various aspects of church-state relations in Ukraine. These included the implementation of the government resolution on reserving clergy from military service, the ministry of clergy abroad in Ukrainian communities on a permanent residency basis, and issues regarding state accreditation requirements for theological educational institutions.
A separate topic of discussion was the worsening demographic crisis in Ukraine amid the war, and the churches' proposals for strengthening tangible support for the family. Following the discussion, it was decided to initiate meetings with relevant government bodies and to plan a series of events focused on promoting and supporting the family in Ukraine.
As part of the implementation of previous decisions, members of the Council were also informed about preparations for a joint forum in support of domestic businesses. The event is to be held with the participation of the religious community, Ukrainian entrepreneurs, the Business Ombudsman of Ukraine, and interested governmental authorities.
The participants expressed their gratitude to His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk for coordinating the work of the Council of Christian Churches of Ukraine over the past year and decided to extend the UGCC’s chairmanship of the Council until September 1, 2025.
The meeting was attended by His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Major Archbishop of the UGCC; Bishop Vitalii Kryvytskyi, Ordinary of the Kyiv-Zhytomyr Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine; Anatoliy Kozachok, Senior Bishop of the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church; as well as authorized representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Evangelical Church, the Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church, the Brotherhood of Independent Churches and Missions of Evangelical Christian Baptists of Ukraine, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ukraine, and the Institute for Religious Freedom.
