On July 23, 2025, Pastor Anatoliy Raichynets, Deputy of the General Secretary of the Ukrainian Bible Society, received a threatening phone call: "You will pay for slandering Russia." The call came from a disposable phone.
This threat followed the publication of his interview in Vart Land, the Norwegian newspaper, in which he spoke about the military aggression against Ukraine, as well as the religious persecution and crimes committed by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Prior to that, Pastor Raichynets participated in advocacy visits of the delegation of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) to Prague (Czech Republic) and Copenhagen (Denmark).
Previously, Ukrainian religious leaders from various denominations had repeatedly received threatening and intimidating emails.
It is worth recalling that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian church and religious leaders have been actively engaged in international advocacy, sharing truthful information about the war and Russia’s crimes against humanity. In contrast, Russian religious figures have openly supported the aggression, which bears all the hallmarks of genocide against the Ukrainian people — a war the head of the Russian Orthodox Church has described as "sacred."
According to the report presented on July 16, 2025 at the meeting of the UCCRO by Bishop Valeriy Antoniuk, the Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Union of Churches of Evangelical Christian Baptists, Council delegations carried out six international visits during the first half of 2025.
