On August 27, 2025, in Kyiv, Senior Bishop of the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church Anatoliy Kozachok met with a representative of the Botswana Council of Churches, Rev. Mmachakga Mpho Moruakgomo. During the meeting, the parties exchanged experiences of interfaith cooperation in their respective countries and agreed to maintain further communication. The meeting was also attended by Oleksandr Zaiets, Chairman of the Board of the Institute for Religious Freedom, and Pastor Yuriy Kulakevych of the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church.
Rev. Mmachakga Mpho Moruakgomo shared his impressions of his stay in Kyiv and his participation in the Independence Day events, the National Prayer Breakfast, and meetings with representatives of Ukrainian churches and government. He spoke about the key milestones in the development and activities of the Botswana Council of Churches, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary, and informed participants about other formats of interfaith cooperation in his country.
Anatoliy Kozachok spoke about the work of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO), outlining the main areas of activity of this interfaith institution and noting its important role in upholding freedom of religion and strengthening Ukraine’s development on democratic foundations. Bishop Kozachok also highlighted the spiritual and humanitarian activities of various Ukrainian churches and religious organizations during the war caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine. He separately addressed the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia and the challenges connected with their return to Ukraine.
As a result of the meeting, both sides agreed to continue communication and exchange information on interfaith cooperation.
It should be recalled that on August 25, the Faith, Family, Freedom Forum took place in Kyiv, which included a panel discussion on religious freedom in times of war.
