On September 16, 2025, Ukrainian religious leaders met with representatives of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) to discuss a number of projects in the context of further cooperation. The meeting took place at St. Alexander’s Catholic Church in Kyiv.
During the meeting, the parties highlighted the positive experience of long-term cooperation. In particular, religious leaders emphasized the importance of advocacy visits by the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations to Berlin and Brussels (2022), as well as to New York and Washington (2025), which took place after the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine. Separately, the Church representatives voiced their support for the annual sociological research conducted by the Razumkov Center on the state of religious life in Ukraine, carried out with the support of KAS.
The Ukrainian side also spoke about religious persecution and strict control imposed by the Russian occupation authorities in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and proposed a number of joint initiatives to the German side.
The meeting was attended by: Florian Feyerabend, Deputy Head of the Department for Europe and North America at KAS headquarters; Thomas Birringer, Head of the KAS Office in Ukraine; Jan-Philipp Wölbern, Deputy Head; Bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyi of the Roman Catholic Church; Senior Bishop Anatoliy Kozachok of the Ukrainian Pentecostal Church; Mitred Archpriest Oleksa Petriv of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church; and Oleksandr Zaiets, Chairman of the Board of the Institute for Religious Freedom.
